Between your own computers
Sign in to the same Filelane account on your Mac and PC, or on two Macs. Confirm the connection and send to the computer by name. Free includes two of your own computers; Pro includes ten.
Send a folder from your MacBook at home to your Mac at the studio. Filelane uploads it to encrypted cloud storage, so the other Mac can download later. Both Macs use the app; they do not need the same Wi-Fi.

Windows: 10+ · x64 · unsigned publisher beta
Different networks. No need to be online together.
Download the files before expiry: three days on Free or thirty days on Pro, measured from completed upload.
Illustrative interface and example files. Transfer times vary with file size and your connection. This demo does not upload files.
These steps connect computers you own. To send to another person, use a person invitation or a public link instead.
Install Filelane on both Macs and sign in with the same account and sign-in method. Name each computer so the destination is easy to recognize.
Before the first handoff, compare each computer’s full fingerprint with Settings → Account on the other Mac. Confirm the matching identity on both computers. Setup instructions ↗
Drag a file or folder onto your other Mac in Filelane. When the upload finishes, it is ready for that Mac to download. Choose a save location or use your auto-download settings.
Sign in to the same Filelane account on your Mac and PC, or on two Macs. Confirm the connection and send to the computer by name. Free includes two of your own computers; Pro includes ten.
Choose Add computer → Connect a person. Share the invitation and separate access code, then compare the verification fingerprint together. They use their own account. Only the computers you connect become destinations; no shared password is needed.
Connected guest computers do not use your own-computer allowance. Transfers still use the sender’s available storage.
For files and folders, create a public link. Your recipient downloads without an account. For public downloads above 256 MiB, use Chrome or Edge on a computer; other browsers support up to 256 MiB at a time.
Clipboard handoffs use the app at both ends. Anyone with a complete public link can open its files while it is available.
Send a proposal from your laptop before leaving for the studio. Deliver finished exports from a desktop Mac to the MacBook you take to a meeting. Keep a prepared project folder together instead of scattering its contents through email.
The Macs do not need to share a Wi-Fi network. Upload while the sending Mac is online; collect the transfer when the other Mac is online, before expiry. A sleeping Mac can receive after it wakes and Filelane reconnects.
Filelane sends the files you choose. Editing the original later does not update the delivered copy, and it does not continuously synchronize folders. Send the revised version when it is ready.
Save your latest work and collect any linked assets into the folder you want to send. Open Filelane from the menu bar and drop it onto your other Mac. Wait for Uploaded before closing the laptop or disconnecting. The other Mac can be asleep during this upload.
Wake the Mac, connect to the internet and open Filelane. Find the incoming transfer and choose Download. If you enabled auto-download, check the receive folder you selected. Upload completion is what makes the later handoff possible.
Prepare Studio handoff with Presentation.pdf, Image exports and Notes.txt. Upload it from your MacBook at home, then collect it on Studio Mac when you arrive. If you change the presentation afterward, send a clearly named revision; the delivered copy will not update itself.
Use AirDrop for nearby sharing or Migration Assistant when moving your account, apps and settings to a new Mac. Filelane’s workflow is for sending selected files between computers you keep using.
AirDrop is built into Apple devices and starts with nearby discovery. It is a useful option when both Macs are with you.
Use Filelane when your Macs work from different locations, or when you want to upload now and collect a particular file later.
Apple’s Migration Assistant moves documents, apps, accounts and settings. Filelane is for selected file deliveries, not a whole-computer migration.
One storage allowance across your account.
No monthly transfer-count cap.
