Share a folder with one download link.
Put the files for a delivery together, then drop the folder into Filelane’s Public links. Send the completed link to your recipient. They open it in a browser and download the folder without a Filelane account.

One folder, all the way to their download.
An example delivery with a clear name and version.
You send from Filelane. Your client receives in a browser without an account.
Download the folder as a ZIP and extract it. A future v2 needs a new upload and link; changing your source folder does not update v1.
Filelane’s product interface with synthetic files and names. Layout adapts to your screen. Timing is compressed; this is an illustration, not a recording or speed test. Nothing is read from your files or clipboard.
Read the walkthrough
- Prepare Client handoff v1 with a PDF brief, final images and a readme. This illustrative package is 24 MB; check that your account has enough unused storage.
- Drop the folder into Public links in Filelane. Stay online until the upload finishes.
- Copy the complete link and send it privately to the intended recipient.
- Your client opens the link in a supported browser without a Filelane account. They see the files you included.
- Download the folder as a ZIP and extract it. A future v2 needs a new upload and link; changing your source folder does not update v1.
Keep the folder together, from upload to download.
You use Filelane on a Mac or Windows PC. Your recipient uses a supported browser and does not need to sign up.
Prepare one delivery
Collect the files, linked assets and a short readme. Check the available storage in My cloud. Filelane transfers what you include; it does not gather missing project assets for you.
Drop, upload, then copy
Drop the folder into Public links. Keep the sending computer online until upload is complete. Copy the full link and share it privately with the intended recipient.
Download and extract
The recipient opens the link and chooses an individual Download button or Download all files. Folders and multiple files are saved as a ZIP. Extract that ZIP to use the contents, before the transfer expires.
Your computers. Your friends.
A link for everyone else.
Between your own computers
Sign in to the same Filelane account on your Mac and PC, or on two Macs. Confirm the connection and send to the computer by name. Free includes two of your own computers; Pro includes ten.
To a friend or coworker
Choose Add computer → Connect a person. Share the invitation and separate access code, then compare the verification fingerprint together. They use their own account. Only the computers you connect become destinations; no shared password is needed.
Connected guest computers do not use your own-computer allowance. Transfers still use the sender’s available storage.
To someone without the app
For files and folders, create a public link. Your recipient downloads without an account. For public downloads above 256 MiB, use Chrome or Edge on a computer; other browsers support up to 256 MiB at a time.
Clipboard handoffs use the app at both ends. Anyone with a complete public link can open its files while it is available.
A delivery that opens with a clear readme.
For example, prepare Client handoff v1 with Brief.pdf, an Images folder and Readme.txt. In the readme, list the delivery date, the version, which file to open first and any software the client needs. One link keeps the delivery together instead of spreading attachments over several messages.
Give the folder a recognizable name, such as Client handoff v1. Include exports the recipient can open if they do not have your source application. Filelane preserves the delivered files; it does not convert their formats.
For a regular collaborator, you can instead connect their Filelane account once and send directly to their computer. Public links are useful when they do not want to install an app.
A share link delivers a version of your folder.
When something changes
Editing the source folder does not update an existing link. Prepare Client handoff v2, create a new delivery and send its new link. Revoke the old link if you no longer want it downloaded.
When the handoff is finished
Expiry or revocation prevents future downloads. It cannot remove a copy someone has already saved. Keep your originals; use Filelane for delivery rather than permanent storage.
Scroll sideways to compare all three columns →
| Recipient | Send with | What they need |
|---|---|---|
| A client or occasional recipient | A public folder link | A supported browser; no Filelane account. |
| A friend you work with often | A connected guest computer | Their own Filelane account and the app. |
| Your other computer | Your own-computer connection | The same Filelane account on both computers. |
Know the link’s availability and audience.
Free links are available for three days and allow five download sessions. Pro links are available for thirty days and allow twenty sessions. Availability starts after upload completes; a session can count even if saving does not finish.
Anyone with the complete link can access the delivery while it is available. These limits suit small handoffs. For a permanent public resource or a large audience, choose hosting intended for that purpose.
For public downloads above 256 MiB, use Chrome or Edge on a computer. Other browsers support up to 256 MiB at a time. Receiving help ↗

Does my client need an account?
No. A public-link recipient opens the link in a supported browser. Only the sender needs Filelane and an account.
Can I send multiple files without making a folder first?
Yes. You can bundle a selection of files into a public link. Download all files delivers the bundled files as a ZIP.
Can I use the same link for an updated folder?
The link contains the version you uploaded. Create a new delivery and link for a revision.
Can I revoke a link?
Yes. Revocation prevents future downloads. It does not delete copies already saved by recipients.
Will a folder link work on a phone?
A recipient can open a public link in a phone browser. Browser downloads are limited to 256 MiB at a time outside supported desktop Chrome or Edge, so use a computer for larger packages.
Does my Mac need to stay open?
It must stay online until upload finishes. After that, the recipient can download before expiry even if your computer is offline.
